BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sandro Carissimo and Candon Rusin each scored 17 points and fueled a big second half that saw Vermont wallop Hartford, 72-47 Sunday afternoon.
Tied at halftime, Hartford took a brief lead early in the second half at 29-26, but the Catamounts responded with a 22-6 run that took over the game for good.
Vermont (19-9, 13-1 America East) maintains its one-game lead over Stony Brook with two games left to play and plays host to the Seawolves Thursday.
Vermont had the hot hand from the field, shooting 56.5 percent (26 of 46) and was 5 of 14 from long range while the Catamounts defense held Hartford to 16 of 49 shooting from the field and 5 of 20 from beyond the 3-point line.
Hartford (14-15, 8-6) was led by Taylor Dyson and Mark Nwakamma, who scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
