Torre returns to MLB post

New York, NY – Joe Torre has rejoined Major League Baseball as executive vice president of baseball operations.

Torre had resigned from his post on January 4 to join a group that failed in their bid for ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers. MLB did not fill the position after his resignation.

"I am very excited to come back to the Commissioner's Office," Torre said. "This is a great era for Major League Baseball, and it's an honor to work with the Commissioner and to play a part in the game's future. Collectively, we will continue to examine ways that we can make baseball better for our fans, Clubs and players."

Torre began his role with MLB in February 2011 after an extensive stint as a major league manager, including a three-year run as the Dodgers' skipper from 2008-10.

In the capacity to which he is returning, Torre will oversee on-field operations, discipline and umpiring while also serving as the commissioner's primary liaison to the general managers and field managers regarding all baseball and on-field matters.
