Syracuse's Scott Shafer in no hurry to name starting QB; it's between Allen and Hunt
FORT DRUM, N.Y. – Halfway through preseason practice, rookie Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer is biding his time in naming his starting quarterback.
With the season opener just over two weeks away, it's still a contest between Oklahoma transfer Drew Allen and junior Terrel Hunt. Shafer says he'll have a decision before the Orange meet Penn State at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Aug. 31.
The team just completed a week of practice at Fort Drum in northern New York. It's the second straight year the Orange have gone to the Army base because it gives the players a chance to focus on nothing but football and the team.
The Army also helped with several team-building exercises, from a blind obstacle course to mazes, even a few rounds of paintball.
