Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi tore his ACL in training on Friday and will not only miss the rest of the La Liga season but also Italy's Euro 2012 campaign.

Rossi was just starting to work his way back from a similar injury he sustained in October, but now sees his hopes of playing for Italy dashed while he will also miss the start of the next season.

The absence of the former Manchester United youngster has been felt by the Yellow Submarine this season with the club sitting only one place above the drop zone.

Rossi has scored 82 goals since arriving from United in 2007, but has been limited to only nine appearances this term because of injury.

The American-born forward has also netted six goals in 27 international matches for Italy.
