Foxborough, MA – Following a successful two-match road trip, the New England Revolution return home to host Toronto FC on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
The surging Revs enter Saturday's tilt with 30 points and in fifth place in the East. A win would further solidify the Revs hopes for a first playoff spot since the 2009 season.
New England's two-match road trip began with a game against Columbus on July 20 which appeared to be heading for a scoreless draw, but the Revs struck twice in second-half stoppage time to drop the Crew by a 2-0 score.
New England defender Jose Goncalves gave his club the lead in the first minute of extra time when he headed home a Lee Nguyen corner kick for his first tally of the season.
Just moments later the Revs wrapped up the result when Diego Fagundez found the back of the net.
"I saw the ball - it was a good ball from Lee on the back post and I was in a great position - so I was just thinking, 'I will not miss it,'" Goncalves said of his goal. "So that's it. I put it in."
"The other night he was disappointed," Revs coach Jay Heaps said. "He dove in (on LaBrocca���s goal). That's not something he normally does and I knew he was carrying this team tonight. He wanted to win this game more than anything and you could tell the way he defended, the way he played all night. And then to get the winner is a special thing for him."
One week later, New England faced a tough against a desperate team in D.C. United at RFK Stadium.
New England fell behind early on against United as Luis Silva scored in the eighth minute of play, but the resilient Revs bounced back with a pair of goals from Dimitry Imbongo and Diego Fagundez to claim an important three points.
It marked the first time this season New England has won when allowing the first goal and trailing at the break.
Toronto, meanwhile, hopes to carry over some positive momentum from a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Columbus Crew last week.
TFC fell behind through a 17th-minute strike by Dominic Oduro and went into the break trailing.
But the Reds came charging back with goals from Jonathan Osorio and Andrew Wiedeman in the final five minutes to claim three points.
The result snapped a six-game winless run for TFC and was their first win at BMO Field since July 18, 2012.
"Pretty much one of the few skill sets I offer is finishing," Wiedeman told MLSsoccer.com of his game-winner. "It is something I have always worked on, so when I am actually in that situation I can execute.
"Obviously minutes have been hard to come by and it has been kind of a roller coaster of a season," he added. "But Bobby (Convey) got open down the line and put in a hell of a ball with his right foot and I was able to get on the end of it and put it in."
