Real's second appeal against Copa del Rey expulsion held up

Real Madrid has seen its second appeal against expulsion from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player held up by the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD), which says it does not have all the relevant files to rule on the case.

Madrid was kicked out of the competition for playing Denis Cheryshev in the first-leg of its round-of-32 tie with Cadiz.

The Russian had been handed a suspension after picking up three bookings in last season's competition during his time at Villarreal, but he started against Cadiz and opened the scoring after three minutes as his side picked up a 3-1 win.

Club president Florentino Perez has maintained that neither the club nor the player knew that Cheryshev had received a suspension and pledged to fight the ruling, but the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) Appeals Committee soon rejected Madrid's appeal against its disqualification.

Los Blancos then opted to take the case to TAD, though it has held up the suspension at the moment, insisting it has not received all the relevant files to resolve the case.

"TAD don't have all the documents related to the files," a statement read. "As a result, we are not ready to resolve the case. TAD will resolve it after all mandatory procedures are followed.

"The TAD have decided not to concede the precautionary measures to Real Madrid, without knowing about the reasons of the appeal."
