The Baltimore Ravens have placed Terrell Suggs on the physically unable to perform list, meaning the linebacker must sit out the first six weeks of the regular season.

Suggs had successful surgery on his Achilles tendon in May.

The NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year helped the Ravens to a 12-4 record and an AFC North title in 2011, recording 14 sacks with 70 tackles, seven forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.

The Ravens also placed wide receiver David Reed on the PUP list. Linebackers Stevie Baggs and Darryl Blackstock, safety Emanuel Cook and defensive tackle Ryan McBean were put on injured reserve.
