The Philadelphia Phillies placed catcher Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

The 33-year-old Panamanian backstop has been felled by plantar fasciitis in his left foot. An MRI revealed a partial tear in the foot, and as a result, he is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

This marks the second time Ruiz has visited the DL this season, after a stint away from the team in late June for an oblique strain.

Ruiz had been enjoying a career year, hitting .335 with 14 home runs, 28 doubles and 58 RBI in 95 games as the five-time defending NL East champions struggled to remain competitive in 2012.

To fill the roster spot, the Phils recalled infielder Hector Luna from Triple- A Lehigh Valley.
