The New England Patriots have signed safety Cyhl Quarles to their practice squad and released tight end Alex Silvestro from it.

Quarles was released by the Baltimore Ravens Aug. 31 after signing as a rookie free agent. He played 50 games at Wake Forest with 239 tackles and two interceptions.

Silvestro, who was converted from the defensive line in the offseason, had been added to the practice squad after training camp. He originally joined New England as a rookie free agent out of Rutgers last year. He was active for the Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, but did not play.
