NEW YORK (Reuters) - San Diego Padres All-Star right-hander Heath Bell was named Major League Baseball's reliever of the year on Wednesday, MLB said in a release.

Bell went 6-1 with a career-low 1.93 earned run average and converted 47 of 50 save opportunities for a Major League-best 94 percent successful save record.

His 47 saves were the second-best in the majors this season, trailing only San Francisco Giants righty Brian Wilson, who had 48.

Bell was named the top reliever following a vote by a panel from MLB.
