BOSTON - The NHL is considering dropping the "blindside" component of Rule 48.
The league's general managers met before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final and came up with a recommended change to the rule that deals with illegal checks to the head.
It will now be considered by the competition committee.
The rule change would not include a ban on all hits to the head but it would include some that don't come from the blindside.
The competition committee meets Monday.
The proposed change came after a presentation from the blue-ribbon committee of Steve Yzerman, Joe Nieuwendyk, Brendan Shanahan and Rob Blake.
