NHL board of governors approves Atlanta sale to Winnipeg

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The NHL has rubber-stamped the sale of the Atlanta Thrashers, paving the way for NHL hockey to return to Winnipeg.

The league's board of governors formally approved the sale of the Thrashers to True North Sports & Entertainment.

The decision came at a meeting in New York.

The Winnipeg franchise is set to start play this fall.
