Murray beats Berrer despite hurting right ankle

PARIS – Fourth-seeded Andy Murray of Britain beat Michael Berrer of Germany 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round of the French Open on Saturday despite twisting his right ankle early in the second set.

Running forward to get to a drop shot at 2-1 in the second set, Murray turned his right foot awkwardly — although he did hit the ball and win the point. He immediately began hopping on his left foot, keeping weight off his right.

Murray went down on his back and covered his face with his arms, then sat up. He made it to his changeover chair and tossed his racket. A trainer came out and taped up Murray's right ankle, and play resumed.

Murray, a three-time runner-up at Grand Slam tournaments, will play No. 15 Viktor Troicki of Serbia in the fourth round.
