Gelsenkirchen, Germany – Schalke defender Christoph Metzelder is likely to miss Sunday's match with Wolfsburg after suffering a setback in his return to action on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Metzelder played just 45 minutes in a friendly with Oberhausen before being taken off by manager Ralf Rangnick.
"We had to take Christoph Metzelder off at halftime," reported Rangnick on Schalke's official website. "We had actually intended for him to play a little longer, but his calf was causing him a few problems after 45 minutes so, as a precautionary measure, we decided to rest him in the second half."
Metzelder originally sustained the injury to his calf in Schalke's Europa League qualifier with Helsinki in August.
Schalke is currently second in the Bundesliga table with nine points from four games.
