Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins released catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Saltalamacchia was designated for assignment last week after going just 2-for-29 with a .182 on-base percentage in nine games this season.

He batted .220 with 11 homers and 44 RBI in 114 games for the Marlins last season after signing a three-year, $21-million contract in December 2013.

Saltalamacchia is a career .240 hitter with 90 homers and 320 RBI in 718 games with Atlanta, Texas, Boston and Miami.
