Milan, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Inter Milan confirmed on Friday that former manager Roberto Mancini will take charge of the club following the departure of Walter Mazzarri.
Mancini guided Inter to three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia crowns during his first stint with the club from 2004-08.
He then moved on to Manchester City, capturing the Premier League title and an FA Cup trophy before heading to Turkey to manage Galatasaray, which won the Turkish Cup in May under Mancini before he decided to leave.
"Today I made the difficult decision to suspend Walter Mazzarri as head coach. It was a decision that I reached in conjunction with my management team," said Inter president Erick Thohir.
"It was a difficult decision because he has been continuously supportive of the direction that we have wanted to take the club, and he has worked tirelessly and selflessly for Inter, with both belief and passion. I would like to thank him sincerely for his efforts.
"However, our goal is to regain our rightful position as one of the very top clubs in Europe, and that's why I am so happy to welcome back Roberto Mancini. His track record both at Inter and elsewhere speaks for itself, and his international experience and hunger for success I know will drive the team to the next level."
The man Mancini replaces, Mazzarri, took the reigns at Inter in May 2013, but he was dismissed on Friday following a poor run of results that sees Inter in ninth place in Serie A with just four wins from 11 matches.
Mancini's first match in his return to Inter comes Sunday, Nov. 23 against rival AC Milan.
