El Segundo, CA – The Los Angeles Lakers learned on Wednesday that forward Pau Gasol has a partial tear of his plantar fascia.
Gasol had an MRI in Boston Wednesday after hurting his right foot during Tuesday's win over the Nets in Brooklyn.
"The MRI test will be sent to team doctors in Los Angeles for analysis and Gasol will fly to Los Angeles tomorrow (Thursday), where he will be examined by team doctor Steve Lombardo and foot specialist Dr. Kenneth Jung. A further update including a time estimate for Gasol's return will be issued at the conclusion of the examination," the Lakers said in a statement.
The 32-year-old Spaniard landed on top of Brook Lopez's foot, but with his left. Gasol was holding his right foot in pain before walking off the floor under his own power.
According to CBSSports.com, Gasol could opt for rehab, with an estimated timetable of 6-8 weeks. On the other hand, surgery would require 10-12 weeks.
Gasol is averaging 13.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 36 games (29 starts) this season.
