New York, NY – New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire will miss the first six-to-eight weeks of the regular season after he undergoes a left knee debridement.
On Sunday, the Knicks announced Stoudemire had a ruptured cyst on the back of his left knee, but on Tuesday revealed the 6-foot-10 forward would need to have a debridement, a procedure to remove tissue.
Stoudemire played in just one game this preseason, a 27-minute appearance against Toronto that saw him score 18 points and add five rebounds.
The 29-year-old Stoudemire is in the third season of a five-year contract. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season, his lowest output since he underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in 2005.
