LONG BEACH, Calif. – Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr won for the third straight year at Long Beach on Saturday, cruising to their first American Le Mans Series victory of the year for Muscle Milk Pickett Racing.
Graf beat Rebellion Racing's Nick Heidfeld by 36.329 seconds in the P1 class.
Luhr started the race third in class and dropped to the middle of the pack during a caution-filled stretch. Graf battled back through the field and took lead for good in the No. 6 Honda Performance Development prototype with 47 minutes remaining.
Extreme Speed Motorsports finished 1-2 in its second race as part of the P2 class, with Scott Sharp and Guy Cosmo winning in the No. 01 HPD ARX-03b. Colin Braun and Jon Bennett took the Prototype Challenge class victory for CORE autosport. Braun, in the No. 05 ORECA FLM09, finished third overall after leading near the midway point.
BMW Team RLL — owned by Bobby Rahal, David Letterman and Chicago businessman Mike Lanigan — won in GT in its second race with its new BMW Z4 GTE, with No. 55 co-drivers Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin leading a 1-2 finish ahead of Joey Hand and Dirk Muller in the No. 56.
In GT Challenge, Sean Edwards and Henrique Cisneros won for NGT Motorsport in the No. 30 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Edwards finished 2.130 seconds ahead of Flying Lizard Motorsports' Spencer Pumpelly.
