MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Tyler Johnson pitched eight innings of six-hit ball and Stony Brook used a big first inning to gain its first-ever NCAA tournament win, eliminating North Carolina State 6-2 on Saturday.

The Seawolves (30-26) got six runs off first-time Wolfpack starter Anthony Tzamtzis, who gave up three hits, hit two batters and walked a third before leaving with just one out in the game.

Johnson (10-3) never let the Atlantic Coast Conference school catch up at the Myrtle Beach Regional.

Reliever William Carmona closed things out in the ninth for Stony Brook, which will play Coastal Carolina or College of Charleston in an elimination game Sunday.

The America East Conference champs had lost all five of their previous NCAA tournament games before knocking off North Carolina State (38-24).

It's the first time since 1999 the Wolfpack went 0-2 in regional play.
