Hamburg, Germany – Hamburg acquired Czech Republic midfielder Petr Jiracek from Bundesliga rival Wolfsburg on Tuesday and signed him to a four-year contract.
Jiracek, 26, joined Wolfsburg in January from Viktoria Plzen and had two goals in 13 league matches for the Wolves. Capped 13 times for the Czech Republic, he makes the switch to Hamburg after an impressive Euro 2012 campaign.
He scored in matches against Greece and Poland, and played in all four matches as Czech Republic won its group and reached the quarterfinals.
Jiracek did not play in the season opener for Wolfsburg, but could step right into the lineup for Hamburg.
