Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros will undergo surgery to remove a small disc fragment in his lower back, the club announced on Monday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Alex Vaccaro at Thomas Jefferson Hospital on Wednesday.

Meszaros has missed Philadelphia's last nine games due to the injury. He has seven goals and 18 assists in 62 contests this season.

The 26-year-old is expected be out of action for 6-to-8 weeks, which means he will not be ready until the second round of the playoffs at the earliest.

In other roster news, defenseman Pavel Kubina, who hasn't played since March 6, was listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
