Bridgeview, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago Fire midfielder Patrick Nyarko will be out of action for the next 6-8 months after suffering a torn ACL in his team's 2-1 defeat to D.C. United.
Nyarko sustained the injury in the 81st minute of the match, and he is expected to undergo surgery over the next few weeks.
"Knowing the work he put in to get back and help us this season, we feel awful for Patrick," said Fire head coach and director of soccer Frank Yallop. "We saw his return to form over the past few weeks and fully support him in his recovery efforts."
Nyarko missed the early part of the season with a sprained knee, and he finishes the 2014 season with one goal and three assists in 17 appearances.
He also became the ninth player in Fire history to feature in 200 competitive games for the club in the match with United before going down with the injury.
