Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning Big East co-Player of the Year Kris Dunn will return to Providence for his junior season in 2015-16, the standout point guard announced Friday.
Dunn, who shared Big East Player of the Year honors with Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono this past season, was widely considered to be selected in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft had he declared.
"I am excited about next season," Dunn said. "I have seen this program accomplish a lot over the last three seasons and I would like to be part of some more success. I really enjoy being around my teammates, coaches and all the friends and family I have in Friartown. Lastly, I am looking forward to continuing my growth, improving as a basketball player and earning my diploma."
Dunn also earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Year award during a breakout sophomore campaign in which he led the Big East in both assists (7.5 per game) and steals (2.7). The 6-foot-3 guard also averaged 15.6 points and 5.5 rebounds while leading Providence to a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
The 21-year-old returned to the court last season after receiving a medical redshirt in 2013-14. Dunn played in just four games that season before suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery.
