Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Manchester City have extended midfielder Frank Lampard's loan deal until the end of the 2014-15 season, the defending Premier League champions confirmed on Wednesday.

Lampard, 36, originally signed a six-month loan with the Citizens after leaving Chelsea to sign with Major League Soccer expansion side New York City FC, but will now stay in Manchester through the end of the season, missing the start of the MLS season in March.

"Manchester City can confirm that it has extended Frank Lampard's contract up to the end of Manchester City's season, enabling his continued participation in both domestic and European campaigns," the club said in a statement.

Lampard has scored six goals in 17 appearances for City, including a late equalizer against Chelsea in September's 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
