Acapulco, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Top-seeded Dominika Cibulkova cruised to a straight-set victory Thursday, while second-seeded Eugenie Bouchard and third-seeded Kaia Kanepi suffered quarterfinal setbacks at the Mexican Open tennis event.
Cibulkova, last month's runner-up at the Australian Open, earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over New Zealand's Marina Erakovic on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.
The 24-year-old Slovak will take on Zhang Shuai in the semifinals after the eighth-seeded Zhang of China notched a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 triumph over Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic.
Friday's other matchup will feature a pair of surprise semifinalists in American Christina McHale and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.
McHale moved into the final four with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win over the 28-year-old Kanepi of Estonia, while Garcia bounced Bouchard with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.
