ITHACA, N.Y. – Chris Johnson scored 19 points to lead three players in double digits as St. Bonaventure held on to beat Cornell 72-68 Wednesday night in nonconference action.
Demitrius Conger and Marquise Simmons chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds apiece.
After Shonn Miller's dunk tied the game at 10 for Cornell, the Bonnies (2-0) scored the next eight points and finished the half on a 25-14 run. St Bonaventure led at halftime 35-24.
The Big Red (1-1) fought back in the second half to make it a one-possession game.
Trailing by two points at 69-67 with 17 seconds left in the game, Devin Cherry hit 1 of 2 free throws for Cornell to cut the lead to one. After two Charlon Kloof free throws extended the lead to 71-68, Josh Figini's missed 3-pointer with nine seconds left sealed the victory for the Bonnies.
