ATLANTA – A 38-year-old TV sports anchor from Chicago was found dead in his hotel room in Atlanta, where he was staying while covering the Chicago Bulls-Atlanta Hawks NBA playoff series.
Police say Daryl Hawks was pronounced dead at a hospital and they do not suspect foul play.
Hawks worked for WMAQ and had been staying in the Omni Hotel at CNN Center. It is next to Philips Arena where the Bulls and Hawks play Game 6.
Station manager Frank Whittaker says his employees were stunned.
Hawks is a three-time Emmy winner and had worked at the station since 2008. He also worked in several other markets.
Whittaker says Hawks was excited about covering the Bulls playoff run.
