Braga keeps hold of third place

Lisbon, Portugal – Braga consolidated its hold on third place on Sunday with a convincing 4-1 home win against Setubal.

Benfica and FC Porto have created a bit of distance between themselves and the rest of the league, but Braga is intent on maintaining its place behind the leaders and did so on Sunday with a comfortable win.

Mossoro scored in the opening minute for Braga to put the hosts in charge, while Custodio added another goal in first-half stoppage time.

Ruben Amorim stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute before Setubal finally broke through with a goal from Jorge Sousa three minutes from time.

Ruben Micael then capped the scoring for Braga one minute later to move the club four points clear of fourth-place Pacos Ferreira, which lost 2-0 to FC Porto on Saturday.

Porto got second-half goals from Alex Sandro and Marat Izmailov to claim the win, keeping Porto three points back of leaders Benfica with a game in hand, which the club will play on Wednesday at Setubal.

Benfica remained on top of the league after a 2-0 win at Moreirense on Monday that saw the team get goals from Eduardo Salvio and Lima after halftime.

In the lone match on Friday, Sporting Lisbon claimed its fourth win of the season as Andre Carrillo's 63rd-minute goal was enough for a 1-0 victory over Beira Mar.

Amido Balde scored twice to help Guimaraes to a 3-1 win at Rio Ave, Maritimo topped Olhanense, 1-0, courtesy of a first-half goal from Adilson, Gil Vicente downed 10-man Estoril, 2-1, and Academica scored twice in the second half of a 2-1 victory over Nacional, which ended the game with nine men.
