New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Toronto Blue Jays hitting coach Brook Jacoby was suspended 14 games by Major League Baseball on Monday for an apparent run-in with umpires last week.

The league said in a news release that Jacoby would be suspended 14 games without pay "for his postgame conduct toward the umpire crew" following last Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Red Sox in Boston.

No other details were given and an MLB spokesman contacted Monday evening didn't expand on the news release.

Jacoby was hired last November. The Blue Jays said they will appeal the suspension, which began with Monday's home game against the New York Yankees.
