San Diego, CA – Heath Bell is still a member of the San Diego Padres.
The All-Star closer was reportedly claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, and the division rivals had 48 hours to complete a trade.
The deadline ended at 1 a.m. (et) Saturday morning, and no deal was agreed upon, meaning Bell will remain with the Padres for the rest of the season.
The Giants, still three games behind Arizona for the AL West lead, were looking to add Bell's services after their closer, Brian Wilson, went on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
In 54 appearances this year, Bell has gone 3-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 35 saves. The right-hander has fanned 40 and walked 19 while allowing 15 earned runs over 53 innings.
