Steven Schott's 44-yard field goal with 9 seconds left lifted Ball State to a 33-31 win Saturday over Eastern Michigan.

Kody Fulkerson had put Eastern Michigan in front on a 20-yard kick with 1:18 remaining. But an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty gave Ball State a break, and Keith Wenning completed four short passes to get the Cardinals (6-4, 4-2 Mid-American) into range. It was Schott's fourth field goal of the game.

For the game, Wenning was 20 for 35 for 284 yards and two touchdowns, including a 94-yarder to Torieal Gibson for the game's first score. He also found Barrington Scott for an 8-yard TD. Jahwan Edwards had a 15-yard rushing score.

Alex Gillett was the offense for Eastern Michigan (5-4, 3-2), passing for 196 yards and four touchdowns and adding 126 yards on the ground. He hit Tyreese Russell for two scores and Nick Olds and Trey Hunter for one apiece.
