Amateur Ko soars in women's rankings

Philadelphia, PA – Amateur Lydia Ko made history Sunday by winning the Canadian Women's Open, and the victory resulted in a huge jump in this week's world rankings.

Ko, a 15-year-old from New Zealand, became the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history and the first amateur to earn a victory since JoAnne Carter in 1969. The title propelled her 140 spots up the rankings into 45th.

Ko had already become the youngest winner of a professional golf event in January when she captured the Women's NSW Open, and captured the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship two weeks ago.

There were no big shakeups to the top of the rankings. Yani Tseng is still atop the list, followed again by Stacy Lewis. Na Yeon Choi, who tied for third this past weekend, rose one spot to third and bumped Shanshan Feng down to fourth.

Ai Miyazato, Suzann Pettersen and Amy Yang remained fifth through seventh.

Sun Ju Ahn moved up one place to eighth, while Inbee Park rose two to ninth. Cristie Kerr, who dipped two places, rounds out the top 10.

Mika Miyazato fell out of the top 10, losing one position to 11th. Jiyai Shin, who was also part of the third-place group this past weekend, moved up three places to 12th.

So Yeon Ryu stayed at No. 13, while Brittany Lincicome fell two spots to 14th and I.K. Kim fell one to 15th. Azahara Munoz and Sun Young Yoo both inched up one, to 16th and 17th, as Paula Creamer dropped two places and now is ranked 18th. Angela Stanford and Chie Arimura continued to hold the final two places in the top 20.
