Lebanon's state-run National News Agency says a rocket has been fired from southern Lebanon towards Israel.

The news agency said the rocket was fired late Sunday night from a location near the southern town of Marjayoun, about six miles (10 kilometers) north of the Israeli border.

It was not immediately clear who fired the rocket or whether it caused any damage or casualties. There was no immediate comment from Israel.

In addition to the Shiite Muslim Hezbollah group, militant Palestinian groups are known to operate in south Lebanon.

Tensions are high in Lebanon where the civil war from Syria has spilled over with street clashes and other violence.
