LAGOS, Nigeria – LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Authorities say two kidnapped Russian sailors have been released after a month in captivity in Nigeria's oil-rich and restive southern delta.
The Seafarers Union of Russia tells The Associated Press that kidnapped sailors Igor Ivanov and Andrei Pukke have been released by their captors.
The union said Thursday that the two men were already back in Russia, but declined to give any other details.
Nigerian newspapers quoted an official with the State Security Service, the country's secret police, saying the two men were kidnapped Aug. 11. The newspapers said a $60,000 ransom was paid for their release.
Nigerian security officials could not be reached for comment Thursday.
