Police in Northern California are searching for at least one suspect after two police officers were wounded when a traffic stop turned violent.

The Fremont Police Department says the gunman was believed to have fled to a residential neighborhood.

He says the area was still on lock down late Wednesday night with no one allowed to go in or leave the six-block area.

Police say surveillance video and witnesses confirmed the man was still carrying the gun after he shot the two officers Wednesday afternoon.

Fremont police spokeswoman Officer Geneva Bosques says one of the officers is in critical condition after surgery. The other officer remains in stable condition.
