Police are investigating a case at a Phoenix-area high school where authorities say a student brought a gun to school intending to shoot a teacher.

A Millennium High School official in Goodyear called police around noon Monday after being alerted that a student on campus had a gun in his backpack.

The Arizona Republic says police responded and found a loaded gun in the unidentified student's backpack.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the student was taken into custody. Police didn't specify the type of gun.

Police say the student apparently intended to shoot a teacher with whom he was having problems. The teacher hasn't been identified.

Millennium administrators say the school wasn't put on lockdown because the situation was handled quickly and without incident.
