The U. S. Geological Survey reports a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck at 4:01 a.m. Monday in northwest Alaska.

The quake hit about 20 miles east northeast of Noatak, which is about 450 miles west northwest of Fairbanks.

A dispatcher for Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla referred a call about the quake to a public information officer who was not available early Monday, but the dispatcher indicated she had not heard of any damage.
