A military spokeswoman says seven people are hospitalized with minor injuries after a British Chinook helicopter suffered a "mishap" during a landing exercise in the Arizona desert.

Michelle Dee, a spokeswoman for Naval Air Facility El Centro in California, says the seven have non-life-threatening injuries.

Dee says the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday 15 miles northeast of Yuma. She said "something went wrong" while the crew was landing the aircraft but had no further details.

She says the people aboard the Chinook were sent to the hospital for evaluations as a precaution. The helicopter sustained damage but Dee said she didn't know the extent of the damages.

The cause of the mishap was under investigation.

The Chinook was operating out of the naval base in California's Imperial Valley.
