Apple Releases iOS 4.3 update for iPhones, iPads and iPods -- a free update that adds new features and boosts performance, the company said. (Apple)

Apple fans got an early present Wednesday -- brand new software for iPods, iPads and iPhones.

The new software, version 4.3 of the iOS operating system, was released to developers almost two months ago, and was made available to all users via iTunes, PC World said.

The new software brings a speed boost to the mobile Safari web browser through a new JavaScript engine, personal hotspot Internet sharing functionality for iPhone 4 users, and a feature that lets users share the iTunes library around their home.

The update also adds support for the new iPad 2 and additional functionality for AirPlay, a wireless feature that allows streaming of videos from an iDevice to an HDTV.

Missing from iOS 4.3 are new multitouch gestures -- such as four- and five-finger swipes that could switch between apps and reveal the multitasking bar -- that Apple asked developers to test on the iPad during the beta period, PC World noted. Apple clarified that these features were only for testing and would not ship to consumers in the final version, but they could return in a future update, the magazine noted.

To get the software, simply plug your iOS gadget into your computer and check for updates using iTunes.
