Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti will be returning to the San Siro for another season after he signed a new one-year contract on Wednesday.

The former Argentina international arrived at Inter in 1995 from Banfield, and has worn the colors of the Nerazzurri ever since.

Zanetti will turn 40 in August, but he is not expected to return to the field until at least October after sustaining a serious Achilles injury in April.

"First of all I'd like to thank the club for the faith they've shown in me," Zanetti told the club's official website.

"We spoke at length about my injury and we decided to do another year. They've again shown they believe in me and my passion for Inter. I hope I can pay back their affection on the pitch."

Zanetti started 33 Serie A matches for Inter last season before the Achilles injury brought an end to his campaign.
