Wieber leads after first day of Olympic trials

San Jose, CA – Jordyn Wieber holds the top spot after the first day of the U.S. Olympic trials and is in prime position to capture the lone guaranteed spot for London.

Wieber, who won the all-around gold medal in the 2011 World Championships, finished the day with a total of 61.7 points, .3 ahead of Gabrielle Douglas. Alexandra Raisman sits in third with 60.3 points.

Only the overall leader after both days of trials is guaranteed a spot on the American team in London, with the other four spots to be picked by a selection committee after the trials are completed on Sunday.

Elizabeth Price is in fourth place with 59.6 points and Kyla Ross is in fifth with 59.4.

Former all-around champion and member of the 2008 American silver medal team in Beijing, Bridget Sloane, was forced to pull out of the competition when she suffered an elbow injury during practice earlier Friday.
