Owings Mills, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Ed Reed returned the Baltimore Ravens' active roster one last time.
The veteran NFL safety signed a contract with the Ravens on Thursday so he could retire as a member of the team where he spent 11 of his 12 NFL seasons.
"First time he never looked at the number. He just signed it," joked Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome.
Reed, 36, made nine Pro Bowls as a member of Ravens between 2002-12, playing during a time when the team was known for its stout defense.
He won a Super Bowl with Baltimore after the 2012 season, then split the next year with the New York Jets and Houston Texans.
"Home has always been in Baltimore," Reed said at an afternoon news conference announcing his retirement.
"My heart has always been in Baltimore," he said. "It will always be in Baltimore and in M&T Bank Stadium."
Reed, drafted No. 24 overall by the Ravens in 2002, finished his career with 64 interceptions, six sacks and 643 tackles in 174 games.
He returned seven interceptions and two fumbles for touchdowns and is the only player in NFL history to score off a punt return, blocked punt, interception and fumble recovery.
