Manchester, England – If history is any indication, there are likely to be plenty of goals flying in at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Manchester United is set to host Arsenal in Saturday's early Premier League fixture, roughly one year after the Red Devils earned a resounding 8-2 triumph over the Gunners at the Theater of Dreams.
A lot has happened since, including Robin van Persie's high-profile switch to last season's Premier League runners-up, but there is little evidence to suggest that there will be fewer goals scored in the corresponding fixture this term.
United has leaked a total of 11 goals in its last four matches across all competitions, most recently falling to Chelsea 5-4 after extra time in Wednesday's Capitol One Cup tilt.
Arsenal is also coming off of an eventful league cup clash as it needed extra time to overturn a four-goal deficit at Reading. The Gunners ultimately came out on top in a 7-5 thriller.
The knock on Arsenal for several years has been the club's drop from year-in, year-out title contention.
It was not long ago that the Gunners came into every Premier League campaign with tag of title-favorites, but they have not finished a season on top of England's top flight since 2004.
With Arsene Wenger's side venturing to Old Trafford in sixth place with just 15 points through nine matches, anything but three points for the Gunners could see their title aspirations go awry for yet another season.
United, meanwhile, has only strengthened its odds to claim a 20th league title. The Red Devils have won three straight in league play, most recently picking up a 3-2 win over Chelsea, to move to within a point of the first- place Blues.
That result was Chelsea's first league loss of the season, leaving the leaders to try and rebound with a tough trip to the Liberty Stadium as they face Swansea City on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Manchester City will go for a fifth straight league win when it heads to Upton Park to face West Ham, Tottenham will try to keep pace with maximum points against Wigan, Aston Villa tries to pull clear of the relegation zone when it faces Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, Norwich City attempts to extend its unbeaten streak to three games when it hosts Stoke City at Carrow Road, and Fulham will look to jump ahead of Everton with a win over the Toffees at Craven Cottage.
On Sunday, Liverpool needs a win to go level with Newcastle on 13 points as the two sides meet at Anfield, while QPR and Reading battle in an attempt to climb out of the relegation zone as they meet at Loftus Road.
And on Monday, West Bromwich and Southampton look to avoid third successive defeats when they do battle at the Hawthorns.
