FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU leading rusher Waymon James will miss the rest of the season for the 17th-ranked Horned Frogs because of a left knee injury.
School spokesman Mark Cohen said Wednesday that James sustained a season-ending injury. The school didn't release further details.
Jones appeared to get hurt in the fourth quarter Saturday of Big 12 newcomer TCU's 20-6 win at Kansas. He clutched his knee after making a cut on a run.
James had 168 yards rushing and a touchdown this season for TCU (2-0), averaging 9.9 yards on 17 carries. The junior, who also led the Frogs in rushing last season with 875 yards, could be eligible for a medical redshirt.
When asked about the running back's injury during his weekly news conference on Tuesday, coach Gary Patterson said James would be a game-time decision for Saturday's home game against Virginia. The coach didn't elaborate then.
With James and Matthew Tucker, the Frogs came into this season as one of five FBS teams returning a pair of 700-yard rushers. They would be the only school with three if Ed Wesley, the team's leading rusher in 2010, hadn't left the program last spring before his senior season.
Tucker, a senior, has 19 carries for 100 yards this season with a touchdown, the 27th of his career.
The other tailbacks on the depth chart, are freshman B.J. Catalon and senior Aundre Dean.
Catalon has 15 carries for 61 yards this season, and Dean had eight carries for 29 yards.
