Guangzhou, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Samantha Stosur of Australia and American Sloane Stephens continued the surge of seeded players shown early exits at the Guangzhou International tennis tournament.

After two seeded players were eliminated Monday, five more were bounced from the event as the first round concluded Tuesday.

Chinese wild card Wang Yafan stunned the top-seeded Stosur with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa knocked out the third-seeded Stephens in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 triumph.

Joining the exodus on Tuesday were fourth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia, fifth-seeded Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan and Slovakian seventh seed Jana Cepelova.

Romania's Monica Niculescu cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jovanovski, who was coming off a runner-up finish this past weekend in Tashkent. Hong Kong qualifier Zhang Ling thumped Diyas, 6-4, 6-1, while Chinese qualifier Zhang Kai-Lin dumped Cepelova, 6-1, 6-4.

The multitude of upsets started Monday with sixth-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy and eighth-seeded German Annika Beck losing. The lone remaining seeded player is No. 2 Alize Cornet of France.

Monica Puig of Puerto Rico ended the recent strong play of Karin Knapp with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory. The Italian beat Jovanovski for the Tashkent crown on Saturday and didn't drop a set during last week's tournament.

Croatian qualifier Petra Martic eliminated Romania's Sorana Cirstea in straight sets and Taiwan wild card Su-Wei Hsieh, the 2012 Guangzhou champ, needed three sets to beat Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck, who was coming off a semifinal run in Hong Kong last week.
