Mercer University will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for the stadium complex that will be home to the Bears' football program, beginning in 2013.

The groundbreaking will be held at the Lower Athletics Field, adjacent to the stadium site, and comes nearly one year to the day after the Mercer Board of Trustees unanimously approved the resumption of intercollegiate football at the university. Details on the stadium's features will be released at the ceremony.

Former Furman University coach Bobby Lamb will guide Mercer's program, which disbanded in 1941. The Bears will return to play on the FCS level in the non- scholarship Pioneer Football League.

The stadium complex also will be home to the Mercer lacrosse programs.
