Chicago Bears defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis did not report to training camp. In fact, Ellis won't be playing professional football anymore.

The Bears announced on Thursday that Ellis has advised the club of his intention to retire from the NFL.

Ellis had signed a one-year contract with Chicago in June.

The 28-year-old was selected seventh overall by the Saints in 2008. In five NFL seasons with New Orleans, Ellis had 173 tackles, 12 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles in 70 career games.
