Schedule announced for possible tiebreakers, ALDS Game 1s

New York, NY – Major League Baseball has announced first pitch times for potential wild card tiebreaker games.

The American League wild card race is even after the Tampa Bay Rays caught the free-falling Boston Red Sox on Monday night. As the Rays finished up a 5-2 win over the New York Yankees, the Red Sox dropped a 6-3 decision at Baltimore to leave both teams with identical 89-71 records. Boston, which is 6-19 in September, is back at Camden Yards Tuesday night with late-season acquisition Erik Bedard on the mound, while Tampa Bay has Rookie of the Year candidate Jeremy Hellickson set to face the Yankees.

If a game between Tampa Bay and Boston is needed, the first pitch at Tropicana Field is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. (et) on Thursday.

It's still a one-game difference in the race for the National League wild card after both Atlanta and St. Louis lost on Monday. The Braves were beaten by NL East-champion Philadelphia on Monday, but remained a game ahead of the Cardinals when Houston notched a 10-inning win over St. Louis. Derek Lowe gets the ball tonight for Atlanta against Roy Oswalt and the Phillies, while the Cardinals will send Jake Westbrook to the hill against Houston.

A first pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. (et) on Thursday at Busch Stadium if an extra game is needed between Atlanta and St. Louis.

Friday marks the start of the American League Division Series, and the respective pitch times are set for 5:07 p.m. (et) and 8:37 p.m. (et). The AL East-champion New York Yankees are locked into the nightcap.
