Washington, DC – The Washington Redskins officially announced signed quarterback Rex Grossman, who started 13 games last season but is expected to play a reduced role if the teams drafts Robert Griffin III as expected.
Grossman passed for 3,151 yards and 16 touchdowns with 20 interceptions during an up-and-down season that included much uncertainty at the QB position for the NFC East's last-place team.
Armed with the No. 2 pick after a trade with the St. Louis Rams, the Redskins are expected to pick the Heisman Trophy winner Griffin out of Baylor if the Indianapolis Colts select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck at No. 1.
In fact, when Grossman's deal was first reported over the weekend, he told the Washington Post the team would "definitely be taking a quarterback" with the pick.
The Redskins didn't announce terms of Grossman's contract, but the Post had reported it was for one year.
Grossman completed 265-of-458 passes in his ninth NFL season -- and second with the Redskins -- and fumbled the ball eight times, losing five. He told the Post he needs to be more consistent.
